A different kind of hearing clinic

Independent advice. Current-generation technology. No pressure.

We take time to understand how you live and listen — then recommend what genuinely suits you, with clear pricing and honest comparison across leading manufacturers.

Clear pathway information: Ask the clinic to explain whether your appointment is HSP, DVA, NDIS or private, what costs may apply, and what written quote information you should receive before choosing a device.

Your hearing explained

How hearing works — and how we read your audiogram.

An audiogram maps the softest sounds you can hear across pitch (low to high) and loudness. Most everyday speech sits inside the shaded “speech banana”. When parts of that area fall outside your hearing range, certain sounds become harder to follow — often the soft, high-pitched consonants such as s, f, th that carry clarity.

How hearing works

Sound travels into the outer ear and down the ear canal, where it vibrates the eardrum. Three tiny bones in the middle ear amplify those vibrations and pass them to the cochlea — a fluid-filled spiral in the inner ear. Inside, thousands of microscopic hair cells turn the vibrations into nerve signals, and the hearing nerve carries them to the brain, where they become the sounds you recognise.

Hearing loss can begin anywhere along this path — most commonly in the cochlea’s hair cells with age or noise exposure, which is why the soft, high-pitched sounds often fade first. That’s exactly what an audiogram helps us measure.

Illustration only. Your audiologist plots your own results during a hearing assessment and explains what they mean for you.

  • ↕Loudness (dB HL)How soft a sound can be before you stop hearing it. Lower on the chart means louder sound is needed.
  • ↔Pitch (Hz)From low (250 Hz, a truck) to high (8 kHz, birdsong and the consonants that give speech its clarity).
  • ◗The speech bananaThe area where everyday conversation lives. Hearing loss often affects the high-pitched edge first.
  • !Everyday soundsLeaves, birdsong, a phone, traffic and aircraft sit at different pitch and loudness — a quick way to picture your hearing.

Ask before you spend

Why spend thousands before checking whether your recommended technology is current?

As a patient-centred practice, we don’t set out to beat a price — we set out to get the device right and keep caring for you afterwards. Ask whether the device is current-generation or superseded, and what ongoing costs apply.

I have been wearing hearing aides now for over twenty years and been going to Varsha Mathew at Agape Australia for the last 6 years. She does not try to upsell or provide any additional services that are not needed, her prices are very competitive. I have recommended Varsha to our friends that needed help with their hearing and they in turn are equally impressed and happy with the service provided. It's not every day you find someone who combines professionalism with such genuine care and dedication to their clients. The fact that she's been so reliable and attentive, especially with after-sales service, is a rare but incredibly valuable trait. I sincerely recommend Varsha Mathew to anyone needing skilled help if they are suffering from hearing loss.

I’ve been wearing hearing aids for 40 yrs and I’ve yet to find a better audiologist than Varsha This beautiful person actually really cares about how you feel with your aids and listens to what you say and what you want. She is always up to date with new technology and what she thinks is best for you I am a tradesman and she knows how to cater for my difficult needs in a noisy environment I have been going there for about 6/7 years now and find her prices are also the cheapest going around This lady is that dedicated too her job and she quite often drops off aids at my front door step herself I like too call her my audio crusader…

I found Varsha very professional in her work. She perservered until I found the unit I was happy with. She was also very thorough in educating on how to get the best out of my aides. My partner and I are from the country and she accommodated us with joint appointments on a Saturday. Very happy with my aides and the service. Thank you.

Agape hearing was recommended to me by a friend...I'm so glad they did. Over several years I have been to no less than 5 other audiologists and was beginning to think that I would have to resolve myself to be content with what I had. Varsha conducted all her work with me on a highly professional basis, even picking up on a number of areas where there were opportunities for further optimisation. Notably, she incorporated my preferences into the customisation of my Oticon more devices to the point that I now want to wear my hearing aids, whereas before it was something I did with a degree of reluctance. I have so appreciated the outstanding service. Thank You.
